TEACHING MY TOWN: A FLIPPED CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE

Hello everybody,  it's me again with another exciting task. This time our task was to make a lesson with flipped classroom approach. First I want to explain what flipped classroom approach is, the flipped classroom is a teaching approach where students learn new content at home through videos or readings (in our case through videos) and practice applying it during class with teacher guidance. The idea of students learning new content at home and then using class time for practice sounded interesting, but I wondered  would it really help learners? Now, after completing a project on this approach with my friends Almina, Beyza, and Nilufer, I can say it’s a good method.

As a group, we created a flipped lesson for 5th grader students, our instructor told us to choose the topic from MEB book which is currently used in state schools.  We chose the 2nd unit of the book which is  "My Town." Our aim was to teach vocabulary for places like "bank," "hospital," and "school" through a video we prepared ( click here to watch it ). To make the lesson interactive, we also designed a quiz to help students practice (click here to take the quiz ). You can click here to see our ASSURE Lesson plan.

When I think of the process of doing the task, I can't find any difficulties. The whole process went smoothly because as a group we divided the work carefully. We created a presentation-like effect using Canva's animations, then used Capcut to add our voice recordings and a few sound effects.
We prepared our quiz on Wordwall and I think it is good to have a website to create fun and interactive activities.

This task was an exciting experience as a pre-service teacher. It showed us how flipped classrooms and technology can make lessons more engaging and effective. I’m eager to try more methods like this in the future, also even if I wasn't eager I'm sure that I will try new methods thanks to this course lol.

Take care until my new task, see you soon :)
